Thomas Christopher Collins (born 16 January 1947) is a Canadian cardinal of the Catholic Church. He is the tenth and current Archbishop of Toronto, having previously served as Bishop of Saint Paul in Alberta (1997–1999) and Archbishop of Edmonton (1999–2006). On 6 January 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him a cardinal at the 18 February 2012 consistory. ==Early life and education== Collins was born in Guelph, Ontario, the son of the circulation manager of ''The Guelph Mercury'' and a legal secretary; he has two older sisters. As a child he attended and was an altar server at the Church of Our Lady.〔 He attended Bishop Macdonell High School, where he was inspired by one of his English teachers to join the priesthood.〔 Earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from St. Jerome College, Waterloo in 1969, Collins was ordained to the diaconate on 14 May 1972.〔 In 1973, he received a Master of Arts in English from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Theology from St. Peter's Seminary, London.〔
